Limerick are still the team to beat in 2025
Limerick recorded their first home league win against Galway since February 2020 and led by seven points at 1-12 to 0-08 at half-time, before John Kiely’s men outscored their opponents by 15 points to 10 in the second half to run out 12-point winners. Galway still remain ahead of Limerick, on six points, with the Shannonsiders having a game fewer played. They travel to Cork for their remaining game against a side who scored six goals against the All-Ireland Champions. Final Score: Limerick 1-27 Galway 0-18
St. Mary’s GAA Club, Athenry extends its deepest sympathy to Nessan, Fiachra, Ciara, the extended Kerrigan Family and many friends on the sad passing of Finbarr. In the 1970’s Finbarr, a native of Gorey, Co. Wexford, was a valued member of our Club and won a County Senior Hurling league medal in 1976. The following year he played for the Club in the Galway County Senior Hurling Final. He is fondly remembered by many of his teammates and friends around the fields of Athenry where he worked with the Department of Forestry.

Presentation College heading to Croke Park for Final
The 2025 Electric Ireland Croke Cup Post Primary Schools Hurling Final will be between Presentation College and Thurles CBS on St. Patrick’s Day in Croke Park. The Athenry side knocked out their great rivals St. Kieran’s College Kilkenny at Bansha (Tipperary).
The winners always had a bit to spare thanks to a powerful defence inspired by Darragh Counihan and Seán Murphy with solid support from goalie Chris Callanan and the defiant Aodhán McDonagh.
Aaron Niland came on in the closing stages and set up a goal for Ciaran Leen while Jason Rabbite turned provider for Eoin Hannon to also raise a green flag for the winners.
Final Score: Presentation College Athenry 4-13 St. Kieran’s Kilkenny 2-11
Galway Hurlers make it three-in-row League wins
Galway made it three straight Allianz Hurling League Division 1A victories at the expense of Wexford at Chadwicks Wexford Park. The home-side had 14 wides – nine more than Galway – as goals from Anthony Burns and a Kevin Cooney penalty saw Micheál Donoghue’s men withstand a stirring late Wexford revival.
Galway will be heading to Limerick for their next game before they finish up against Cork and are clear of any danger of relegation The experienced David Burke returned for his first taste of action in 2025 and is the 36th player played by Micheal Donoghue and his management in the League to-date. Final Score: Galway 2-19 Wexford 1-20.
Galway snatch a draw with the last kick
Shane Walsh drove a two-point free into a diagonal wind to snatch a dramatic draw for Galway with the final kick of a cracking game at Tuam Stadium.
Galway kicked four two-pointers in the opening half as the sides went in level at 0-11 to 1-08 on a day when the wind added a degree of difficulty to the shooting.
Tyrone looked set for their second win of the campaign with Matty Donnelly’s two-pointer in the 69th minute. But up stepped Walsh to snatch a draw in the most dramatic fashion at the death to maintain Galway’s unbeaten run. Final Score: Galway 1-18 Tyrone 1-18.
Allianz Football League Round 4 Galway v Donegal
Galway maintained their unbeaten start to the Allianz League as Shane Walsh turned on a masterclass of shooting to bring Donegal's winning start to an end at Pearse Stadium despite playing two periods with just 13 men. Galway’s Matthew Tierney was red-carded just before the interval and Daniel O’Flaherty and Finnian O Laoi were black-carded during the second half but Galway did enough to carve out a 0-21 to 0-14 win.
Camogie Association Award for Athenry’s Moira Coen
The 2025 Volunteer of The Year for Galway Moira Coen was presented with her award by the President of the Camogie Association Brian Molloy at a dinner in Croke Park. Congratulations to Moira on receiving the award in recognition of her commitment to Camogie at Club and County level.
