Galway see off New York in second half
Galway didn’t have things all their own way against New York in the Connacht SFC quarter-final at Gaelic Park. Two second half goals from Matthew Tierney and Cian Hernon helped to break the homeside’s resistance and propelled the Tribesmen into a provincial semi-final in two weeks’ time against Roscommon at Pearse Stadium. Galway’s main cause of concern is an ankle injury to All Star midfielder, John Maher, that forced him off in the first half.
A capacity crowd turned out to watch the Tribesmen’s first championship fixture in New York since 2015, and the Westerners eventually took care of business in style winning by 3-28 to 0-20.
The Club extends its deepest condolences to Jackie, Eddie, Maudie, the extended O’Shea Family and his many friends on the sad passing of Frank. An active member of the Club in the 1970’s Frank played a key part in the development Athenry Camogie Club over many years, winning several titles as part of the management, including four-in-a-row County Senior titles. A loyal supporter of St. Mary’s GAA Club he always kept in touch with Club’s activities and will be sadly missed by many Club members.
