Galway let big lead slip away in second half
Galway footballers looked set for a third straight victory when they led by nine points at half-time, but where instead grateful to John Daly's late block on Ethan Doherty's shot with only 10 seconds left on the clock and share the points. It was a remarkable transformation from the home side.
Dylan's McHugh's ninth minute goal which handed Padraic Joyce's team a grip that tightened as the opening half progressed. In the second period Derry’s remarkable transformation saw them outscore the Tribesmen by 0-12 to 0-3 in a second half that they will not be happy with. Tribesmen defeat All-Ireland Hurling Champions at Pearse Stadium
Galway recorded their second win in this season's Allianz League when a strong opening-half performance laid the foundation for a 2-21 to 0-20 victory over Clare side at Pearse Stadium. The Tribesmen led by 2-15 to 0-11 at the end of the opening half with Anthony Burns, starting his first league game for the Tribesmen, shooting 2-02 from play. Athenry’s Eoin Lawless came on in the closing stages.
St. Mary’s GAA Club, Athenry extends its deepest sympathies to Mary, Sinead, Dara and the extended Coleman and Cooley families on the sad passing of Michael. We also extend our sympathies to Abbeyknockmoy Hurling Club members, former teammates, neighbours and his many friends.
Michael inspired and led a generation of his club’s players to win county titles at intermediate and senior level. Few in Athenry will ever forget, but always admired, his inspirational displays against us in the 1988 drawn and re-played senior finals.
He won All-Ireland Senior, Under 21 and three National Hurling League medals, captain in 1996, with Galway and was selected for three All-Star Awards.

Athenry captain Shane Quirke was on hand to make the Lotto draws on the 3rd February in The Central Bar. There was no Jackpot winner on the night but Jennifer Burke and Patrick Hession won the Allianz League Tickets and will be heading to Galway's next game in hurling or football. Galway impressive in their easy win over great rivals
Galway continued their flying start to the National League as they cruised to their biggest victory over their neighbours in over forty years at MacHale Park Castlebar. Mayo were no match for last year's All-Ireland finalists with Shane Walsh delivering a man of the match performance and shooting nine points, including four two-pointers as he made the most of the 40m arc rule enhancement. Final score Galway 0-26 Mayo 0-16
Presentation College into All-Ireland Hurling Semi-Final
Presentation College Athenry advanced to the Masita All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Croke Cup Semi-Finals after a cracking second-half display against St. Flannan’s (Ennis) at Gort GAA Grounds. Level at 1-07 to 0-10 at the interval and facing a stiff wind the Pres gradually took control in in the second period.
The decisive score a goal by Ciarán Leen came after Jason Rabbitte won possession and and set up the Craughwell man who rattled the net. Both players had a huge influence on the result with Presentation College, despite a slow start, proving too strong for Tony Kelly’s side and were impressive winners. Final Score: Presentation College 1-19 St. Flannan's 1-14.

Awaiting the start of another season of training and games the new pitches in Carnaun are in immaculate condition. Thanks to all involved in their maintenance and upkeep.
Gavin Lee inspired Galway topple the Cats at Nolan Park
Galway put the disappointment of an average and losing performance against Tipperary behind them when they roared to a battling victory over Kilkenny at Nowlan Park Kilkenny. Eight minutes from the finish Eoin Cody powered through for a terrific goal that put his side in front for the first time. But Galway never flinched and dragged themselves up off the floor with an unanswered run of four unanswered points Jason Flynn and Conor Whelan. Final score: Galway 2-19 Kilkenny 1-19.
