This Mullins family was that of Thomas Mulllins. Mick was third oldest in the family. He was born June – July 1882. He lived in Moyveela up to when he got married. Festus Conroy used to work for Fahys. He says that six of Mick’s siblings went to New Zealand. Mick was the only one that got married of the ones that remained here. He was a farmer and a hard worker. In his hurling days he was a very tough defender and he played in defence for the Derrydonnell Hurling team. Thomas Mullin’s father Michael Mullin did not feature on either the 1901 or 1911 Census. He must have passed away before then as his mother Honor was recorded a widow on both Census. She was aged 72 years in 1911. The church records for Athenry gives Honor’s maiden name as Murphy. Michael and Honor had four children – Julia, John, Thomas, and Martin according to the Athenry Church Records.
