Athenry Under 13's edge out Monivea/Abbey in thriller despite tough conditions
Athenry produced a stirring second-half comeback to claim the Under 13 3A Football Shield Final, edging past Monivea in extremely challenging conditions. Played in persistent rain and wind, Monivea made the most of the elements in the first half. With the wind at their backs, the home side struck two well-taken goals and added three points to take a commanding 2-3 to 0-3 lead at the break.
But Athenry responded with grit and determination after the restart. Driven by a strong midfield performance and composed play in front of goal, they chipped away at the deficit before a crucial second-half goal swung momentum in their favour. Their defence stood firm in the closing stages, holding Monivea scoreless throughout the second half.
In worsening rain, Athenry showed great composure to add the winning points, eventually finishing two clear. The victory capped off a spirited and disciplined team display in very testing conditions. Final score: Athenry 1-8 Monivea 2-3

Galway fail to match Meath in Football Quater-Final
It was the end of the line for Galway Senior Football Team whose bid to go one step further than their 2022 and 2024 final appearances went up in smoke. Meath were far more direct when they had the ball while Galway regularly slowed the play down, waiting for an opportunity to arise. However in the second half, goals by Cillian McDaid and Liam Silke were expertly taken and when Shane Walsh drilled over a two-point free as Galway surged 2-12 to 1-12 ahead.
It looked like Meath's brave bid for All-Ireland honours was finally over but they produced a strong finish to grab victory. Final Score Meath 2-16 Galway 2-15

No joy for Galway Minors in Leinster Final
A good start and an early Cian Hannon goal gave Galway opponents Kilkenny plenty of problems but a combination of poor free taking and goalkeeping errors proved costly. To add to Galway’s problems their defensive set up, with the wind in the second half, allowed their opponents too much space and time. Final Score: Kilkenny 4-11 Galway 1-8
