93 GALWAY LADIES FOOTBALL The year 2012 was another good year for Galway Ladies. The Seniors contested the Div 2 League Final, where they were beaten by a much stronger Mayo side. They had their revenge at the Connacht final when they were pitted against Mayo again and came away Connacht Champions. They beat Clare in the quarter final and advanced to the semi-final for the first time in 6 years but unfortunately they were beaten by a much stronger Kerry team. Edel Concannon, Sinead Burke and Ger Conneally got All Star nominations At under age the under 14's did not get out of Connacht, the Minors were narrowly beaten in the Connacht final by a point. The team of the year in 2012 was the Under 16's. They added an under 16 All Ireland title to the under 14 title they won in 2010. On the club front Claregalway represented Galway in Féile for the 4th year in a row. Corofin beat St Brendan's in the Senior club final but unfortunately they were pitted against Carnacon in the first round in Connacht and lost. Kilkerrin Clonberne beat Claregalway in the Intermediate Final and went on to win the Connacht final. Annaghdown beat Naomh Anna Leitirmoir in the Junior final and also went on to win Connacht. By the time you are reading this article I hope both clubs will have All Ireland titles in their respective grades. Nicola Ward (Kilkerrin Clonberne) got the Young Player of the Year award.
