65 Clarinbridge U14 All Ireland Féile Finalists in Croke Park Clarinbridge Camogie Junior B County & League Champions 2012 SUCCESS FOR CLARINBRIDGE JUVENILES AND CAMOGIE 2012 proved to be a successful year for Clarinbridge GAA Club particularly at Juvenile level. In total 20 teams represented the club in age groups ranging from under 8 to Senior with the Juvenile section fielding in both codes. There was no shortage of silverware with the under 14s winning the county and Féile hurling titles as well as the Division 1 West Football shield. The Under 13 hurlers emulated their U14 counterparts by also winning the county title. Juvenile The season got off to a good start for the Clarinbridge hurlers with the under 14’s winning the County Féile na nGael title and the honour of representing Galway in the National Finals. Two teams were entered in the County under 14 Championship and both reached the finals in Kenny Park in June. The A team won their final against Kilnadeema/Leitrim retaining the County Title they won last year. The B team battled hard against a highly fancied Turloughmore outfit in the D final, but just fell short in their efforts. Many of these players got their reward later on the year when as members of the under 13 squad they they beat Turloughmore in the County Final in Duggan Park Ballinasloe. The highlight of the year for the club was undoubtedly the participation of the under 14’s in the National Féile na nGael festival held in Dublin in July. In conditions varying from sunshine to persistent downpours over the three days the Bridge Boys beat their hosts Faughs and their Dublin counterparts Whitehall Colmcilles as well as Clare champions Kilmaley in the group stages to set up a semi final against Sarsfields of Cork. The game took place in difficult conditions in front of a large crowd at Na Fianna on Mobhi Road with The Bridge running out winners against Sars by 112 to 0-5. On Saturday July 7th less than 16 months after our senior team won the All Ireland Club Final the under 14’s contested the All Ireland under 14 final in Croke Park against the St. Brigids club from Dublin. After a close fought encounter in normal time extra time was needed to separate the teams with St. Brigids winning on a score line of 1-12 to 1-10 . Our squad participated fully in festival with all squad members taking part in the parade and in the activities organised by the host club. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our host club Faughs and the host families for the wonderful way in which they looked after our young hurlers. The season did not end there for this team. In October they stepped out onto the sod of Semple stadium to win the Durlas Og tournament. Not to be outdone our under 13’s represented Galway in the Kilmacud tournament run in conjunction with the All Ireland sevens on the eve of the Hurling Final beating Douglas of Cork in a front of a huge and appreciative Hurling audience. Our under 12’s, 11’s, 10’s and 8’s took part with enthusiasm in the blitzes and games organised by Coiste Iomana na nOg and other games. The introduction of a County Finals day was viewed as being a huge success by mentors, players and parents. In football the under 14 team won the Division 1 West Shield Final beating Moycullen in Pearse Stadium. In the Championship they beat Tuam Stars and Killanin in the earlier rounds before losing to eventual champions Claregalway in the semi final. They also took part in the The Féile Competition finishing runners up in their group. The under 12’s, 10’s and 8’s took part in the activities of Coiste Peil na nOg in large numbers and in other activities organised by the club. For the first time in many years Clarinbridge took part in Scor na nOg entering in the Trath na gCeist & Grupa Ceoil competitions. We look forward to expanding our involvement in the coming years. Camogie Clarinbridge Junior B Camogie team started the year well with a comprehensive League Final victory over Athenry. Great things were to come with Clarinbridge defeating Liam Mellows in the County Semi Final to set up an encounter against Gort in the Final. Clarinbridge proved extremely strong with a final score line of 7-12 to 1-1. A Connaught Final clash v Oran (Roscommon) was next on the calendar. The Final was played in Rockfield, Co Roscommon and Clarinbridge were overcome by a strong Oran side on a score line of 1-8 to 0-4. Despite a loss in the Connaught Final, the future of Camogie in Clarinbridge looks bright. Clarinbridge GAA Club would like to extend thanks to the Executive Committee, the Finance and Lotto Committee, the Pitch Committee, the local primary schools, all players, team managers, selectors, parents, supporters and officers of the Club for their commitment and time in helping Clarinbridge to progress at both Adult and Juvenile level. On a final and more poignant note, Clarinbridge GAA Club would like to extend our sincere condolences to the Armstrong Family on the loss of Miko Armstrong, who passed away this year. Miko was President and lifelong Member of our GAA Club. We would also like to extend our sympathies to all those who lost love ones in 2012. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
