Galway GAA Annual 2012

62 Cumann na mBunscol, Gaillimh promotes and fosters the active participation and coaching of Boys and Girl’s football, Hurling, Camogie, Handball and Athletics in our primary schools. We promote Gaelic Games in an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment and we aim to make Gaelic Games the games of choice in our schools. Our two big events in the football calendar are the I. N. T. O. Mini – sevens and the football competitions. Last year, 132 schools entered the boy’s mini-sevens and 108 entered the girls. The eventual winners were Brierhill N. S. in the boys and Cappataggle N. S. took the girls title. Both of those schools had pupils playing in the exhibition games in Croke Park on All Ireland semifinal and final days. 175 schools entered the boy’s football competition, which was divided into 13 divisions – from 5 a side to 15 a side. The finals were played in Ionad Peile, Loughgeorge on June 6 and it proved to be a feast of football with games played on two pitches simultaneously. Qualifying teams came from all over the county – from Tullykyne to Kilbannon, from Portumna to Labane and from Kilconnell to Windfield. 133 schools entered the girl’s football and this competition was played in a series of blitzes all over the county in 10 different venues. The standard of girl’s football has improved considerably over the past few years and we can see the results in the success of Galway at underage level. Paul Gannon ( Eagles Nest N. S. ) looks after the North West Connemara area in football. He runs 6 a side blitzes so as to include all the small schools. It finishes in Oughterard in late June with 12 finals for boys and girls. A wonderful day is had by the children of the 32 schools taking part. You can look up the results and learn about all our activities on our website: www. scoilsportg. ie We are extremely grateful to the Football Board for the use of their wonderful facilities at Loughgeorge. Míle Buiochas do John Joe, Des, Teresa and all at the Ionad, Tom McManus and his coaching staff for their help on Final day and also to our referees. CUMANN na mBUNSCOL Roinn C Champions: Lackagh N.
